Interestingly enough, Lalonde is the only author (I think) I know of who does not contribute solely holókaustoi to Zeus Meilikhios.

I agree that generalizing and putting Theoi in boxes isn't completely accurate, but I think it's also slightly unavoidable. I will try to be more inclusive of the opinions of other modern scholars, however, in the future.

Thank you for the additions to this post :)Elani Temperancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05611003885755154591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2382184804747180588.post-81312552000918277022013-03-06T07:25:05.537-08:002013-03-06T07:25:05.537-08:00Zeus Meilikhios didn't receive just holocausts...Zeus Meilikhios didn't receive just holocausts. According to "Horos Dios" by Gerald V. Lalonde, he was a popular personal and family (as opposed to civil) deity. He received regular sacrifices, bloodless foods, libations, etc. First phase of Diasia sacrifices were wineless followed by a second phase of eating sacrificial meat and "presumably" the drinking of wine as it was more celebratory and happy. Perhaps included the entertainment of artistic contests.

the following link has the notes I made upon reading the book. http://4ofwands.wordpress.com/2013/01/02/notes-from-horos-dios/Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2382184804747180588.post-47175228241053658182013-03-05T09:24:42.799-08:002013-03-05T09:24:42.799-08:00Zeus is everywhere ;)Zeus is everywhere ;)Elani Temperancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05611003885755154591noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2382184804747180588.post-59383243878055627232013-03-05T09:16:39.027-08:002013-03-05T09:16:39.027-08:00ahh no i see the sence in the "happy diasia&q...ahh no i see the sence in the "happy diasia" thang on FB. i never would have equated Zeus as being a kthonic god too!
