Archaeologists have discovered part of the ancient seaside fortification wall in Mytilene town on Lesvos, during a rescue excavation on a plot of land in the northern ancient harbor; which is known today as Epano Skala.


It is a structure of voluminous carved blocks of local stone, part of the 3rd century BC wall, with repairs done during the Roman period, archaeologists.

Part of the same wall has also been found in the archaeological site of the ancient merchant gallery of the Hellenistic years, also in the area of ​​Epano Skala in Mytilene. The gallery is also made of the same stone.

According to archaeologists, this is an important finding for the history of ancient Lesvos and the landscape of the area 2,000 years ago.
